If you’re new to the world of impact play, you might be wondering what it’s all about. Maybe you’ve heard about it from friends or read a little online. Either way, you’re curious, and that’s great!

What is Impact Play?

Impact play is a type of consensual activity where one person strikes another for pleasure, sensation, or catharsis.

This can involve spanking, flogging, or using various tools like paddles, whips, and rods.

The key word here is “consensual” – both people involved should agree to the play and understand each other’s boundaries.

Why Acrylic Rods?

You might be wondering, why acrylic rods?

Well, these rods are unique because they come in different shapes and sizes, each offering a distinct experience.

RodsByRane Acrylic rods are transparent acrylic that come in round, square, spiral, or a bundled brush styles. They’re lightweight, durable, and can be easily sanitized, making them a popular choice for many enthusiasts.

Getting Started

Before you jump into using acrylic rods, it’s important to have a conversation with your partner. Talk about your boundaries, establish a safe word (a word that means “stop immediately”), and discuss what you both want to get out of the experience.

Communication is the foundation of safe and enjoyable impact play.

Warm-Up is Key

Just like you wouldn’t start a workout without warming up, you shouldn’t dive into impact play without some gentle preparation.

Is this your first time, if so, are you giving or receiving?

Newcomers to impact play usually try things on their own to get an idea of what they like. This is good information to share with the person you will be ‘scening’ with.

Topping

If you are giving, you are ‘Topping‘. Ask your partner what type of impact they want to try, stingy, or thuddy. Then start with light applications to get the blood flowing and prepare the skin.  Talk to your receiver (bottom) and ask what they are getting from this experience.

Bottoming

If you are receiving, you are ‘Bottoming‘. As the bottom, you need to know what kind of impact you want to receive. When starting out, your Top will apply light strokes so you can get a feel of what to expect. Here is where communication is vital between the Top and the Bottom.

As you continue, be honest and tel your Top how you feel. It’s okay to say stop, and try something else. If you already know the pain tolerance level you have, share this information with the person who is delivering the blows.

Discussion between the giver/receiver helps to prevent any unexpected pain and makes the experience more enjoyable, no matter the type of instrument being used, floggers, canes, acrylic rods or wire.

Exploring Acrylic Rod Styles

Here at RodsByRane, we have a variety of acrylic rods, for your striking pleasure, no matter which side you are on!  Let’s talk about the types of acrylic rods and the sensations they offer:

RodsByRane acrylic rods are available in sizes from ¼” to 1” diameters, most rods are 24″ in length, and we do offer some custom sizing.

The smaller sizes will provide a ‘sting’ when applied, that is felt by the receiver, or bottom. At each increment, the sensation changes from being stingy to a more full or ‘thuddy’ sensation, which can be very cathartic (see Drumming).

Round Rods: These are a popular style that provide a smooth, even impact. They’re great for new tops because they’re easy to control and deliver consistent sensations.

Square Rods: These rods offer a bit more intensity. The edges can create a sharper sensation, adding variety to your play. They’re perfect if you’re looking to experiment with different feelings.

Spiral Rods: These are super fun! The spiral design distributes the impact in a unique way, creating a blend of sharp and smooth sensations. They can be a bit more intense, so start slow and see how it feels.

‘Ranebow’ Brush Rods: These rods are a bundle of 1/16″ acrylic rods.(See image below)

The brush rods provide a more diffused impact, spreading out the sensation over a larger area. This can be a gentle way to end a session or to mix things up.

Techniques and Tips

When using acrylic rods, technique is everything. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Start Slow: Begin with gentle taps and gradually increase the intensity. This allows you and your partner to adjust and enjoy the sensations.

Focus on Safe Areas: The best spots for impact play are areas with more flesh, like the buttocks, thighs, and upper back. Avoid sensitive areas like the spine, kidneys, and joints.

Keep It Fun: Remember, the goal is mutual enjoyment. Check in with your partner regularly to make sure they’re comfortable and having fun.

Aftercare

Aftercare is a crucial part of any impact play session. This is the time to take care of each other, both physically and emotionally. Offer water, a blanket, and some soothing touch. Talk about the experience – what you liked, what you might want to do differently next time, and how you’re feeling.

Final Thoughts

The primary rule when entering an exchange, is that it’s mutual consensual. Impact play with acrylic rods can be an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience when done safely. It’s all about exploring new sensations and connecting with your partner in a fun, adventurous way.

So, grab an acrylic rod, talk with your partner, and see where the journey takes you. Remember, communication and consent are your best friends in this exciting world of impact play.
